I hear from clients who ask what do I put on first and last? When layering skin care, always think of thin before thick.
Step One
Thoroughly cleanse your skin. In warmer months, consider using a gelee, antioxidant cleanser. This not only protects your skin barrier, but nourishes your skin with antioxidants. Cleansing is the most important step in your skin care. It removes makeup, impurities and provides protection to your skin cells. Think of massaging in your cleanser with some extra attention to all areas of the face. Focus on the forehead, up to the hairline. Move to the eye area with small circular motions while cleansing above and below your lash line. I like to call this a shampooing of your lashes. Move downward over the cheeks, nose, mouth, jawline, neck and finally the decollete. Give your skin a thorough rinse whether you cleanse over the skin, or in the shower.
Mindful facial cleansing not only cleans your skin, but stimulates circulation. This delivers oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. Nutrients and oxygen make the skin structure resilient and strong. Your skin is then able to defend itself against environmental stressors like pollution, UV light and blue light.

Step Two
Apply serum. I recommend layering serums with the same massage movements you used above in your cleansing step. Serums that nourish your skin barrier and deliver antioxidants leave your face feeling softer and looking healthier.
Think of thin before thick when layering serums.

Step Three
Apply Moisturizer. Moisturizers seal in the serums and complement by adding an additional layer of nutrients and protection. Apply your moisturizer with the same massage movements you used in steps one and two. Apply a thin layer of coverage so your face does not feel like there's product on it.

Step Four (daytime step)
Apply SPF. Whether tinted, or non tinted, mix a dime-sized amount into your fingertips. This warms the product, helps it spread better, and helps you get more milage out of the bottle. Remember SPF is always your last step in your morning skin care routine. Even though your makeup may have SPF, remember that makeup wears off. That's why your SPF application in your final skin care step is so important. Mineral SPF deflects the sun's UV rays away from the skin. Mineral is also non toxic like certain ingredients in chemical sunscreens.

Step Five
Don't leave home without your smile! Smiling not only releases endorphins (natural pain killers), but it makes you feel good while passing your good energy onto others. :)
